The neon installation Bazar Rogatka reveals that the commerce of the marketplace is obsolete. It has been superseded by the supermarket. Point of departure is a row of abandoned market stalls in the Warsaw district of Praga. All their recyclables were stripped and reused for other purposes. Nothing was left to indicate their former function except barren, rusty metal skeletons that looked as if they were about to fall apart or disintegrate altogether. Five such stalls have been lined with neon light. Neon, also a remnant of bygone days, was once used largely for advertising. In this case, however, it is not used to advertise a specific product or a market stall but rather to stir memories of the market itself as an actual, real site of trade that evolved historically.
